Genotoxic, co-genotoxic and potential carcinogenic activity of model organophosphorous pesticides

We showed that organophosphorous pesticides induce adverse effects in non-nervous systems. The most important findings are that low concentrations of OP induce genotoxic and mitogenic effects in HepG2 cells, that they change phosphorylation of kinases involved in stress response and change expression of genes involved in stress response leading to changes in basic cellular processes involved in cancer initiation, and that they enhance genotoxicity of BaP by favouring its metabolism toward the pathway of formation of o-quinones and reactive oxygen species.

Invited lectures on meat and meat products as a source of biologically important minerals (BZD 2009)

Authors presented the chemical composition of meat and certain meat products, with emphasis on the content of minerals. Meat and meat products can be considered as a source of biologically important minerals mainly due to better bioavailability of some micro-elements such as iron, zinc and selenium. In comparison with other foods meat as such is relatively poor in sodium, chlorine, iodine, phosphorus, and is very poor source of necessary calcium.
