Three images in Balantič's poetry: blood, earth and fire

The paper deals with an analysis of three images in the poetry of France Balantič. It first attempts to offer an interpretation of the various ways in which these images are used by the poet and then with the aid of contemporary theories of the metaphor attempts to place them in a broader context. The findings are primarily linked to the fact that the use of metaphors or symbols in Balantič has multiple meanings, shifting between the physical and spiritual spheres.

A long way home – representations of the western Balkans in political and media discourses

Due to the division of European countries on members and non-members a situation emerged where EU membership is the necessary condition for economic development and improvement of lower status in european hierarchy. The author questions the nature of discourses which emerge in such contexts, and interrogates the meaning of this context for both the creators of these discourses and their objects. What can these discourses say about Europe today?

Eve's daughters: constructions of femininity in Slovenian public discourse 1848-1902

The monograph deals primarily with the construction of femininity within public discourse in the 2nd half of the 19th and the 1st two years of the 20th century. It examines magazines and journals, published in the period from 1848-1902 and is to great extend limited to this period. The authoress examines the articles about the role of women in the national renaissance, the discourses about motherhood, marriage, girl’s education, prostitution, women sexuality and women readers.
