Andrej Božič: “… in der Dünung / wandernder Worte.” Paul Celan’s Poetry in the Context of Literary History

I discuss the context of literary history in Paul Celan’s poetry, focusing on the role and status of quotation as a sign of the reception of the historicity of literature, its traditions, and its contemporaneity. Within the development of Celan’s poetic oeuvre, I especially accentuate the confrontation with the fate and poetry of Osip Mandelstam.

DIVJAK, Alenka. The motif of warning birds in Attila's siege of Aquileia and its survival and transformation in the Origo civitatum Italiae seu Venetiarum (Chronicon Altinate et Chronicon Gradense), La cronaca di Marco and Chronica extensa by Andrea Dandolo

The purpose of this article is twofold: fi rst, to examine the motif of warning birds, associated with Attila's siege of Aquileia in 452, in its late antiquity context, and second, to trace the transformation of this motif in three medieval Venetian chronicles: Origo civitatum Italiae seu Venetiarum (Chronicon Altinate et Chronicon Gradense), La Cronaca di Marco and Dandolo's Chronica Extensa. The motif of warning birds in the three Venetian chronicles can be viewed from two perspectives. First, on a larger scale, the discussed motif can be seen as a part of a broader historiographical vision underlining the importance of the earliest settlements in the lagoons for the growth of the Republic of Venice.

Komel, Dean On hermeneutical relation

The paper attempts to reveal the region of “hermeneutic relation” within the context of the determination of tautological thinking of Enowning. The key question is how this relation is determined by the self-withdrawal of the truth of Being, pointing both to the openness of the world and to its “closedness” under the reign of Enframing within the history of Being.

LETNAR ČERNIČ, Jernej. Corporations and human rights: toward binding international legal obligations?. V: KUMAR SINHA, Manoj (ur.). Business and Human Rights. London

The last few decades have witnessed fundamental changes in domestic and international environments. Globalisation has blurred the borders between economies and societies around the world. It has been characterised by the rising economic, social and political power of corporations, particularly transnational corporations. It has been alleged several times that corporations violate human rights. In this light, it appears that state action alone does not suffice to protect fundamental human rights. Hence, this article explores how these changes have affected how individuals enjoy their human rights in relation to corporations’ activities. It examines whether corporations have any human rights obligations at the international level. It then identifies the human rights obligations of corporations. Finally, the article outlines some proposals for identifying corporate human rights obligations at the international level.

TONKLI-KOMEL, Andrina. The political in other phenomenal forms

I follow Hannah Arendt’s attempt at thinking of the political in the time of the end of the political in two ways, starting from the opinion, that her understanding of the political is, on the one hand, “hermeneutical” – she understands it upon the fundament of the human being-in-the-world (Human Condition) –, and, on the other, “performative” – she understands a political action as a public personification, as a masquerade (On Revolution). I try to connect this with the question, how the political, which denotes “human concerns” or “conditions”, “the human way of life”, at the same time “shows” this life in its privacy as being non-political and anti-political.
