In the paper author has presented the historical development of Slovene banking and insurance sector from the very beginning in 19. Century, rapid growth during the interwar period and the communist version of both sectors after the 1945. In last part the peculiarities of the banking and insurance sector during the transition period is also analyzed.

The analyze showed that the modest and inadequate educational structure (especially the lack of technical experts) of the population was one of the important obstacle that prevent the faster modernization of the economic and social Slovene territory.
