Biographical Images in Political Change and the Invention of Tradition

In his paper the author investigates the emergence of the "biography" as a rounded story about the so-called "witnesses of their time", which, as a constitutive element of an allegedly shared history, generates an impression of a wider social "memory". The paper explores the images of individuals who through their (primarily intellectual) actions influenced their social environment by contributing to its formation or merely by testifying about it.

The financial operations of urban and rural confraternities in the Koper area as revealed by reports from church and state officials between the 16th and 18th centuries

The article, based on analysis of several primary sources (Relazioni dei Podestà e Capitani di Capodistria, Atti e memorie della Società istriana di archeologia e storia patria, Senato mare – Cose dell'Istria, Archivio di Stato di Trieste, Biblioteca Civica Attilio HortisTrieste, Državni arhiv u Rijeci, Pokrajinski and Župnijski arhiv in Koper) dealing with the Brotherhood of Koper in 16th, 17th and 18th century. The latter were in possession of substantial assets, teherefore the Church nad especially the Venetian central authority, carried out continuous monitoring over charities (particularly their monetary operations).

'The Adriatic Is Ours'

The article analyzes how different nationalisms from the second half of the 19th century wanted to take control over the Adriatic Sea. The author exposes the so called conquer tendencies and rhetoric of nationalist organizations, individuals and states.
