The Robba Fountain

In the spring of 2010 there was an exhibition in the National Gallery of Slovenia on the city fountain by Francesco Robba (of 1751), one of the best known city simbols of Ljubljana. A monograph, published on this occasion, presents the story of the fountain from the beginings in the 18th century up to the end of 20th century, when it was moved to the gallery. It includes careful study of its erection in 1751 as well as later perception of the monument, including his use as a city and national symbol.

Between worldly lords and eternal salvation

On the international CIHA (International Committee of the History of Arts) conference in Maribor (Art and Architecture around 1400) several of our researchers presented their research. Alenka Vodnik, for example, demonstrated how the work of painters from Friuli on the historical territory of Carinthia was short-lived and is only present on the territory that was under control of the allies of the Habsburg family.

The survival of the Beautiful Madonna types in 15th century central european sculpture

The paper presents a case study based on the engraving of “Madonna with Lilies of the Valley” by Master E.S. (L. 79) and the statue Madonna from Dangolsheim in Alsace (now kept in Berlin and by some attributed to Nicholas Gerhaert of Leyden) to answer some questions about the preservation of individual typological elements of Beautiful Madonnas in late Gothic central european sculptural production. Both masterpices are more or less freely based on an statue of a Beautiful Madonna from around 1400, combined with the latest achievements of early Netherlandish art.
