2000 years of Emona?

Emona was founded as a colonia Iulia sometime under Augustus, probably early in his reign. According to Saria, the foundation of the town should be dated around 14 AD, which, however, has been proven as wrong. This opinion was based on a building inscription of Augustus and Tiberius, who had given Emona an important construction, perhaps even the city walls with towers, but since the inscription is fragmentary, the object of the imperial munificence is not known. However, the city walls had no bearing on the foundation of the town and often represented merely a status symbol.
