A contamination with paranormal phenomenon in local community in the Early new age

The paper deals with the problem of ghost reports in the Early Modern Period in the territory of Slovenia and contaminations, ie. interaction of popular and learned culture on the example of the interpretations of the life after death. The main source is the report of apparitions of the spirit of Mary Elizabeth Gallenberg, who died in 1655. These apparitions are one of the first well-described and investigated paranormal cases in Slovenia. The report is confronted with an analysis of the investigation of the bischof-tribunal in Ljubljana. Comparison of two sources testify the way the intertwining of the collective consciousness of high and popular culture and mutual contamination of theology and homiletics by popular perceptions of death, purgatory and the salvation of souls of coming into the world of the living.

The use and preservation of the forests in the Slovenian alpine space up to the 16. Century

The paper presented at the international conference pointed out that the medieval sources do not enable the research about the differentiation and the evaluation of the negative (ab)use of the forests by different social categories. The conclusion could be very general; the negative effects grow with the extensive use which depends on the population density and the development of the relevant economic categories, but the two factors had not been independent. There was a noticeable difference in the reaction of various social categories on the acute exhaustion of natural resources: the reaction of the individuals and communities was primal, i.e. the expansion to the neighboring land. On the other hand, the state and territorial authorities, as well as the land lords issued many laws and decrees, namely many prohibitions, restrictions and selection of the use of forest resources.

The Slavs from the point of view of the modern Friulian historiography

The paper discusses the understanding of the Italian intellectual elite of the modern Slovenian speaking population and their “barbaric” ancestors. This attitude was based on the Italian as well as regional patriotism. The first one led to the exclusion of the antique and medieval “barbarian” others as the cultural inferior, the second one managed to overcome the alleged linguistic and ethnical differences of the regional population. The antique and early middle ages “barbarian” people were discussed from the point of view of the Italian patriotism, based on the ancient antipode Italy – the “barbarian” world, even though the so called land patriotism built its individuality on the achievements of some “barbarian” people (e.g. Langobards), on the other hand they had without any restrains adopted the linguistic diversification as well as the diverse origins of the population of the region.
