The effect of ageing on contraction time of postural and non-postural skeletal muscles in master athletes

Normal aging is characterized by muscular atrophy and a loss of force-generating capacity. The goal of this research was to investigate the age and sport activity type on postural and non postural muscles’ contraction time in 170 master athletes and 51 non athletes. We found significant age effect in non postural muscle. We could conclude that non postural muscle deteriorate the most without regular sport activity, while postural muscle have enough daily stimuli to be prevented from major deterioration.

Effects of complete physical inactivity on human organism psychical health and well-being in healthy young subjects

Understanding human adaptation on physical inactivity is a key issue in many research studies. Human responses and even adaptations on aging, sedentary lifestyle, injury and disease induced physical inactivity and space flight with weightlessness are reflected in human morphology and physiology. We detect morphological, musculoskeletal and some functional responses in young and healthy men after 35-days of total physical inactivity including nutrition countermeasures that could prevent some catabolic adaptations with individually balanced energy intake.

The influence of total physical inactivity on plasma homocysteine levels : risk factor for development of cardiovascular disease.

The influence of total physical inactivity on plasma homocysteine levels was demonstrated. During 35-days of bed rest ten healthy males have elevated homocistein levels and with it also cardiovascular risk. The initial levels was assured with 35-days of recovery exercise.

Accreditation of study programme Applied kinesiology

We have accredited study programme of Applied kinesiology 1. and 2. stage at the University of Primorska. The researchers of research programme formed the working group of both undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes. As well as for doctoral stage, this will be accredited in 2010. Postgraduate stage is divided in two modules: Exercise physiology and Kinesiology in ergonomics. In 2010/11 both stages will start with student matriculation.
