How does culture show? A case study of an international and interprofessional course in palliative care

An international, interprofessional and IT supported undergraduate course in palliative care for Swedish and Slovenian students of health and psycho-social care has been developed and implemented. It enabled students to get to know other professions and becoming able to work together. Cultural differences between Sweden and Slovenia came to the fore regarding teamwork and relations between professions and towards patient.

What do nurses do for patients in the last days of life?

Many complexities of end-of-life care are understudied. OPCARE9 EU FP7 project, uniting researchers and clinicians from nine countries, is aimed at looking into what is going on in the last days of life of patients with cancer. The project joins expertise of nurses, physicians, sociologists and psychologists.

Intergenerational solidarity – Professional training of expert workers in education in the years 2008 -2011

A number of members of the research program is active in the preparation of educational materials and lectures in the 3rd thematic section on Intergenerational solidarity, the program of addtional education of expert workers in education in the Republic of Slovenia. Participants are presented with findings on intergenerational solidarity and its nature in Slovenia (services for older people, connections between older and younger generations, the role of community and voluntary organizations, neighbours and family member).

Older people in a changing society

This scientific monograph with contirbutions of a number of authors presents a thorough, comprehensive and systematic overview of the research findings about life of older people in the last twenty years in Slovenia. It examines the demographic trends, intergenerational contract, analysis of social networks of the elderly, the role of local community and neighbors in the lives of the older people and the significance of social networks for the health of the older people.
