Human rights and human trafficking : reflections on the Slovenian case

The article is based on the paradigm of human rights for formulating policies against global trafficking. As a rule, the responses of national politics and intergovernmental organisations involve a migration management strategy to limit the inflow of migrants and regularize their stay. Instead of the preferred regulatory approach, the paper advances human rights protection for the victims of organised criminal activities. The paper calls for individualised and gender-specific treatment of human trafficking victims, in particular sex industry victims.

Automobility and spatio-temporal organisation of everyday life

The article analyzes the dimensions of spatio-temporal organization of everyday life in Slovenian Istria and relates it to the forms of mobility and urbanisation. High dependency upon car transport creates social patterns of behavior that promote i.e. support the processes of suburbanization of population and economic activities in the hinterlands of major urban centers on the coast. This article pays special attention on the relationship between urbanity, trafficking and changes in spaces of consumption.

4.
Spatial sociology in praxis

In the article, ”translatability” of spatio-sociological concepts, is discussed. We find that the traditional professional profiles of spatial and urban planners (especially architects) in Slovenia is still dominant and self-sufficient so that sociological content are treated as marginal or merely advisory. The claim that the sociological discourse is too abstract to be useful in practice, is partly justified. In this paper we propose some communication techniques that would facilitate dialogue between the spatial planning (urbanistic) professions.
