Attitudes towards life sentence in Slovenia 2009

General population attitudes on life sentence, death penalty, abortion etc. are compared with attitudes of students in the field of criminology and security studies, law, education, social work and social sciences. The authors hypothesize that some segments of the population - older and less educated – will express less liberal and more punitive attitudes towards life sentence and death penalty. There is also an expectation that students as younger and involved in the higher education express more liberal attitudes than population at large.

Factors influencing work satisfaction across European nations

Based on International Social Survey Programme data (Work orientations) the author analyses factors that influence work satisfaction across EU nations. Intrinsic, extrinsic and social factors of work satisfaction are examined, as well as work rewards and values. Cross national differences are explained based on cultural, historical and political characteristics. Key findings are that work satisfaction in post-socialist countries is significantly lower than in western and northern Euroepan nations, which is mainly explained by poor work relation and low perceived intrinsic value of work.

Early sexual debut and sexual life style reflexivity

Sexual life styles of persons with early sexual debut differ in some respects from the rest of population as shown by an analysis of factors associated with sexual debut in Slovenia. Drawing on sociological insights suggesting that most of the factors related to early sexual debut are not conducive to sexual reflexivity, we hypothesise that sexual life styles of early starters are characterised by a lower level of reflexivity than of the rest of population.
