Significant predictors of achieved criteria of adulthood in emerging adults and cultural differences among Austrian, Slovene and US unversity students

Students in the US report on somewhat more criteria for adulthood already fulfilled than their peers from two Central European countries, mostly due to higher scores of the former in the family capacities domain. The students’ age, intimate relationship status (IRS) and a low need for attachment in relation to parents (mother and father) account for the criteria attained across the countries. All of the effects are small, gender and living arrangements do not play a significant role in explaining the criteria achieved, whereas the effect of IRS is notably stronger in Slovenia.

Adolescent individuation and family context

Melita Puklek Levpušček was a visiting professor at the University of Jaen (Spain). The lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate students were about her research work on adolescent individuation in relation to parents over the past ten years. She presented contemporary concepts and models of individuation in this developmental period, complex methodological approaches, and recent empirical findings in an international perspective, including research in Slovenia.

Invited lecture on the importance of teaching and learning in the zone-of-proximal development

With her critical presentation of the normative and biological concepts of childhood, the author provides an opportunity for understanding child development and learning within the context of socio-cultural theories. She is predominantly interested in the role of early social interactions and language in the child's cognitive development and learning. She implements the concepts of teaching/learning within the zone-of-proximal development and scaffolding to the area of child's play with a more competent partner.

Invited editing of scientific journal in the field of preschool education Contemporary Pedagogy

The journal consists of 6 papers, in which the authors address the preschool education in preschools through the multidisciplinary approach. In the editorial of this special issue (co-authored by Kroflič) Marjanovič Umek highlights contemporary understanding of child's early development, which requires the implementation of new concepts of education in preschools. The papers refer to the development of child's language and attachment in the context of preschool, the cooperation between preschool and parents and solutions concerning the curriculum and didactics within the preschool education.
