Apple fruitlet ethylene evolution and MdACO1, MdACS5A, and MdACS5B expression after application of naphthaleneacetic acid, 6-benzyladenine, Ethephon, or shading

Ethylene evolution and expression of ethylene related genes were observed on apple fruit tree after application of plant growth regulators or shading treatment. Application of plant growth regulators or shading influenced on expression of ethylene related genes and ethylene evolution. However the expression of observed genes is not closely related to total fruitlet abscission, but have strong effect on abscission dynamic.

Exceptionally fast uptake and metabolism of cyanidin 3-glucoside by rat kidneys and liver

In the study of absorption and metabolismof phenolics an intravenous dose of fruit pigment cyanidin 3-glucoside was administered to rats and tissues were analyzed using last-generation mass spectrometry. As soon as 15 s after its administration, both cyanidin 3-glucoside and its methylation product, peonidin 3-glucoside, were detected in the plasma, kidneys, and liver. These data about fast kinetics contribute to solving the paradox of the high bioactivity of anthocyanins in spite of their apparent low bioavailability.

Phenolics in Slovenian bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) and blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

For the first time phenolics from bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) sampled from seven different locations and highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) from one location in Slovenia were analyzed. In samples of both species 15 anthocyanins were identified and quantified. As well the contents of flavanols, flavonols, phenolic acids, and stilbenes were determined.
