European corn borer in Slovenian hop fields

The European corn borer is a serious pest of hop in Slovenian hop fields (most part of Savinja valley) for a long time. In last time their larvae cause yield losses and quality of many vegetables and ornamental crops. Control of European corn borer with contact insecticides don’t have satisfactory efficacy, this is also non environmental acceptable. In the future we will include for larvae control new non-traditional (biological) methods.

In the frame of Slovenia Argentina International Cooperation Project titled: Applicability of natural components for the replacement of synthetic additives in the food industry. Activities in Buenos Aires: participation at seminars for researchers and postgraduate students, giving lecture,organization of bilateral research project activities and performing of research work (preparation of plant extracts, achievement of different encapsulation techniques, determination of effect of encapsulation on antioxidant activity of extract).

Stabilisation mechanisms of DNA molecule from hyperthermophilic archaea Aeropyrum pernix in vivo and in vitro

Miha Črnigoj has got the Krka’s award for his PhD thesis. In his PhD work he studied the different mechanisms of stabilization of DNA molecule isolated from hyperthermophilic archaeon. He found out theat the DNA molecule is stabilized by the presence of high concentrations of NaCl inside the cells and Alba proteins.
