Fruit quality of Redhaven and Royal Glory peach cultivars on seven different rootstocks

The article deals with the impact of seven peach rootstocks on fruit quality of two cultivars, 'Redhaven' and 'Royal Glory' in 2009. Using multifactorial analysis of variance a different response of peach cultivars to specific rootstocks has been demonstrated. Fruit quality was dependent on the peach cultivar. Also, the phenolic content was highly dependent on the rootstock used; however, the content of quercetins and anthocyanins were less affected by different rootstocks.

Effect of drying of figs (Ficus carica L.) on the content of sugars, organic acids and phenolic compounds

The effects of different drying methods (figs dried in the drying oven or in the sun) on the content change of selected primary and secondary metabolites have been monitored in fig fruit. Previous reports indicate a different chemical profile of fig cultivars which bear fruit twice a year and thus these cultivars were sampled three times. It turned out that the content level of both primary and secondary metabolites increased after drying, which can mainly be ascribed to a decrease in the quantity of water in the fruit. Figs dried in the drying oven had significantly higher contents of all analyzed phenolic compounds compared to sun dried figs, except of cianidin-3-O-rutinoside. Therefore, the results of our studies indicate that appropriately dried fig fruits can serve as a good source of phenolic compounds.

Characterisation of selected hazelnut cultivars: phenology, growing and yielding capacity, market quality and nutraceutical value

Results of fifteen-year samplings and analysis of different hazelnut cultivars confirmed the most fruitful cultivars Nocchione, Roma, Pauetet, Istrian dolgoplodna luster and Daria in our growing conditions. Unfavorable weather conditions during flowering and pollination is well tolerated by Pauetet, Fetile de Coutard, Nocchione and Segorbe cultivars. Daria and Nocchione cultivars, as well as Roma and Tonda Gentile delle Langhe cultivars are the least affected by nut weevil. Hazelnuts cultivars Daria, Pauetet and Tonda di Giffoni have the highest yield of kernels and are most suitable for roasting. The information obtained is useful both for producers, as well as for confectionary industry and consumers, in Slovenia and in other areas of central and southern Europe with similar favorable climatic conditions.
