A proof of ESC-A existence in UCB with flow cytometry

In the UCB there are some ESC-like cells expressing the typical markers Oct-4, Nanog and SSEA-4. Me managed to analyse them by flow cytometry and to increase their numbers by immunomagnetic sorting. With the cell sorter we finally isolated a population expressing CD133, but lacking CD45 and other markers of lineage differentiation. Additional tests need to be performed in order to explore the possible use of these cells in regenerative medicine.

Adipose tissue stem cells

The influence of cryopreservation on adipose derived SCs was studied. Viability, proliferation and differentiation potential did not decrease after thawing. One month long cryopreservation does not hinder these cells and they remain useful for therapy.

Healing of diabetic ulcera

In this invited lecture the author represented current aspects of surgical treatment of diabetic feet, including the modern techniques of tissue suplements, stem cells and growth factors.

Influence of MSCs on malignant glioblastoma cells

It is known that MSCs travel toward malignant glyoblastoma cells based on their tumor chemokines. MSCs probably act via the cystein cathepsins B and L. Some clones of MSCs reduce the invasion over the impact on cathepsin B, whereas the malignant glioblastoma cell are likely to increase invasion over the impact on cathepsin B.

Systems biology providing new diagnostics and therapies

Mixed research groupf from Germany and Slovenia is introducing new methods of system biology based on proteomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics with microchip based technology and corresponding staistical analysis of mass data. The purpose among other is to determine new markers of cancer and assistance in cellular therapy of cancer.
