40th anniversary of chronic hemodialysis and kidney transplantation in Slovenia

According to the Slovenian ESRD registry, on december 31, 2008 there were 1967 patients (968 per million population) on chronic renal replacement therapy: 1343 on hemodialysis, 519 with functioning kidney graft and 105 on peritoneal dialysis. Renal replacement therapy is for years available to all patiens, without limitations. High quality of hemodialysis in Slovenia enabled that there are patients who survived on renal replacement therapy for more than 30 years. The longest hemodialysis therapy lasted for 37 years and 4 months.
