Since 2000 Ida Eržen holds the position of the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Image Analysis & Stereology" which is the official journal of the International Stereological Society. The journal is interdisciplinary and has open access at http://www.ias-iss.org. The journal is indexed by some most important databases, i.e. INSPEC, METADEX, Mathematical Reviews, MathSci NET, SCOPUS and Current Index to Statistics, Science Citation Index Expanded (also known as SciSearch®), Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition and Current Contents®/Engineering Computing and Technology.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26921177Hydrogen sulfide is well-known for its toxicity. It also has an important role as endogenous signal molecule. One of its most important functions is regulation of cellular metabolism. Beside that, it also regulates vascular tone and influences arterial blood pressure. The aim of this study was to investigate correlation between higher concentration of plasma hydrogen sulfide in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with shock with survival, severity of disease, organ failure and haemodynamic parameters. The second endpoint was to compare prognostic value of plasma hydrogen sulfide with lactate. Higher total plasma sulfide concentration in patients with shock on admission to ICU correlates with higher mortality, severity of disease, expressed as APACHE II score and norepinephrine dose. We observed only poor, but statistically significant correlation of plasma hydrogen sulfide concentration with organ failure, expressed as SOFA score. Correlation of plasma hydrogen sulfide and other haemodynamic parameters - mean arterial pressure, pH and bicarbonate was only poor and statistically nonsignificant. Higher total plasma hydrogen sulfide concentration on admission to ICU was a better predictor of mortality then lactate, but the difference was not statistically significant.
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 264551168Practically all researchers of the group are involved in teaching graduate and postgraduate students of medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, nursery and biochemistry. These activities include writing textbooks. Members of the group, prof. Erika Cvetko and prof. Tomaz Mars participated their chapters in the university textbook "Anatomy, histlogy and biochenistry" which was published in 2012. Members of the group prof. Tomaz Mars and prof. Zoran Grubic contributed their chapters to the revised, 2nd edition of the university textbook "Seminars from pathophysiology" which was also published in 2012.
D.10 Educational activities
COBISS.SI-ID: 71234561Researcher of the group, Erika Cvetko, was a receipient of the Lavric award for the most excellent teaching performance in 2012. This award is every year granted by Medical Faculty in Ljubljana to one professor and one assistant. Three members of the research group received this award since 2009 (two professors and one assistant), which demonstrates the ability and commitment of the members of the research group to transfer the knowledge and experience gained through research, to the students, which is also one of the most important goals of the research at the university institutions.
