Editorial board of an international magazine

Since 2000 Ida Eržen holds the position of the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Image Analysis & Stereology" which is the official journal of the International Stereological Society. The journal is interdisciplinary; in 2009 the number of downloads from its homepage reached 40 700. The journal is indexed by some most important databases, i.e. INSPEC, METADEX, Mathematical Reviews, MathSci NET, SCOPUS and Current Index to Statistics)

Laboratory for biopsy diagnostics of degenerative neuromuscular diseases-Licence to operate

In the lab we have prepared laboratory? s agenda according to ISO standards, updated standard operating procedures and introduced new diagnostic immunohistochemical reactions (Lamp-2, TDP43, neurofilaments, dysferlin). We have continued to collect muscle samples for Neuromuscular Tissue Bank of the University of Ljubljana, a partner of Eurobiobank.org connecting European centres for rare diseases, mostly neuromuscular. Articles from the field were published in J. inherit. metab. dis 2009; Proc 17th Inter meeting on forensic medicine [Elsevier, 2009]: Zdrav Vestn 2009.

International Stereology Course in Zagreb

At the Medical Faculty in Zagreb Ida Eržen held The International Stereology Course applying the computer programme ELLIPSE (ViDiTo, Košice). Twentysix participants from different departments of the Zagreb and Maribor University attended the course. Some of them have still been contacting for consultations. One participant spent a fortnight in the lab at the Institute of Anatomy applying morphometric methods .

Member of the Domain Committee (DC) of the Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences (BMBS) at the European Cooperation in Science and Technolgy (COST)

Since 1998 prof. Grubic represents Republic of Slovenia as a member of the DC BMBS (and its earlier forms) of COST. In this position prof Grubič evaluates pre-proposals (3-5 pages) for COST actions arriving at COST calls (in 2009 he evaluated 33 pre-proposals), follows the progress of ongoing COST actions (since 2006 he follows B30 action) and attends DC BMBS meetings (2 in 2009) where he participates in the evaluations of reports and decision-making on financing COST actions.

Laboratory for the genetically altered organisms

On Dec 29, 2009 Ministry for the Environment and Spatial Planning issued a Document providing the »Closed System – Laboratory for the experimentation with genetically altered organisms – second security step« with the license for experimentation with genetically altered organisms. Registry No. is 0011/2009. Laboratory widens the possibilities for future scientific work of the group. It was also a substantial investment as the areas of the laboratory had to be adapted to the required standards
