B. Šarler, S. Islam, U. Hanoglu. Solution of hot shape rolling by the local radial basis function collocation method.

We treat the enhancement of our original meshless method, based on collocation with radial basis functions on problems of hot shape rolling of steel. This represents the first use of this novel method in solid mechanics.

B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference

B. Šarler, G. Kosec, A.Z. Lorbiecka, R. Vertnik, A meshless approach in solution of multiscale solidification modeling.

New approaches in multiphysics and multiscale modelling of solidificatio are described. This include particularly our nes combinaton of meshless methods on macroscopic level and point automata method on microscopic level. Dendritic growth morphology and mezoscopic structures are demonstrated in the process of continuous casting of steel.

F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge

R. Vertnik, Heat and fluid flow simulation of the continuous casting of steel by a meshless method.

The dissertation for the first time exposes solution of engineering turbulence modells by a meshless method. Numerous test cases are presented. The most nonlinear cases are verified by the commercial package FLUENT. A model for continuous casting of steel is developed. The influence of process parameters on velocity and temperature field is the billet is demonstrated. The diretation received ECCOMAS award.

5.
B. Šarler, New meshless solution concepts for solving multiscale phase change problems.

In the framework of invited lecture on Uppsala University, Sweden, which belongs to the to 50 best in the wold, we highlited new micor-macro concepts of solidification modelling and new original numerical methods for their numerical evaluation. We established collaboration, related with the mathematical aspects of the radial basis function approximations.
