Preparation of TiO2/SiO2 sols and their application for deposition of self-cleaning and antifogging coatings

The patent describes a new product, based on TiO2-SiO2 aqueous sol with addition of some organic solvents to assure high optical quality and homogeneity of the coatings, which strengthen already at room temperature and upon sun exposure. The coatings are composed of photoactive crystalline anatase nanoparticles, while silica serves to attain better hydrophilicity and mechanical properties of the coatings. Now we continue with activities to widen the patent protection in European countries.

Slovenian Conference on Materials and Technologies for Sustainable Growth

Conference was organized by Materials Research Laboratoy of University of Nova Gorica. The programmmee of the conference included two topics of sustainable growth: development of materials and technologies for environment protection and alternative energy use. The conference was held from 11. to 12. of May 2009 in University Center Ajdovščina. It was attended by 67 participants from Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Austria and Czech Republic.

Windows that clean themselves

This is an interview with U. Lavrenčič Štangar on the occasion of her nomination for »Woman Scientist of the year 2009« under organization of the Slovene magazine Jana and pharmaceutical company Krka Novo mesto. Her professional and personal path is described, which eventually resulted in the development of photocatalytically active materials that can be used also for self-cleaning glass surfaces.

Microstructural peculiarities of epitaxial CoFe2O4 thin films.

Ferrite compounds are investigated as potential photocatalytic material. We studied some peculiar behaviour of CoFe2O4 when it is immobilized in a form of eptaxial thin film on the surface of single crystal substrate. As first we discovered auxetiv behavious of such thin film.
