System for temperature and temperature gradients measurements in small samples by NQR

The subject of invention is a temperature (T) and temperature gradient (dT/dz) in millimetre-size samples. The meter according to the invention takes measurements of temperature and temperature gradients via measurement of nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) frequency of ▫$^{35}$▫Cl in NaClO▫$_3$▫ or KClO▫$_3$▫. According to the invention, at least one 1 to 2 mm▫$^3$▫ size mono-crystal of NaClO▫$_3$▫ or KClO▫$_3$▫ is applied, around which a small solenoid, part of the input oscillatory circuit of an NQR spectrometer, is wound. The measurement can be carried out also, when the said solenoid is wound directly around the measuring space itself, where feasible. In case several crystals are applied, temperature can be measured on more locations simultaneously. If local coordinates of sensors are known, temperature gradients can also be determined from temperature shifts of NQR ▫$^{35}$▫Cl shifts. By using an elongated sensor, temperature gradient can be determined directly from the NQR line broadening.

Leading of the Center of Magnetic measurements (CMag)

During last 9 years, since we purchased a new QD SQUID susceptometer and established CMag, experiments were conducted on the system for more than 80 % of all time (24h/day, 7 d/week). Since 2009 we have expand our expermintal facilities with a new system for physical properties measurements: QD PPMS.

The Patent describes the concept and realization of a new kind of memory element for digital application, where a byte of digital information is stored by a controlled time-temperature profile, in the absence of magnetic or electric field.

Inclusion of PhD students in research work.

Two post graduate students have finished their study and obtained the degree. One post-doctoral student joined the group at IMFM in 2009 and a new post-graduate students started her work in 2010. Three graduate doctoral level students were doing their PhD and research work in the group of Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School.
