Residual stresses after laser surface remelting of cast iron as a function of microstructure constituents

In this investigation, the size and variation of residual stresses after laser surface remelting were measured. Optimal laser remelting conditions were chosen, while only the overlapping of the remelted traces was varied. On the basis of the measured deformation at a specific depth of material removal, it was possible to calculate the size and vari-ation of residual stresses on the depth of the modified layer. The results of the measured residual stresses confirm that the stresses strongly depend on the presence and quantity of the microstructure constituents in the remelted surface layer.

Experimental autonomous cell LAKOS EAC

The experimental manufacturing cell Lakos EAC consists of two computer controlled desktop machines, a mobile robot and a control system. The cell includes elements of ambiental intelligence, creating a ubiquitous production environment. Control of the cell is based on self-organization. The cell is connected to the World Wide Web, where it can be monitored and controlled. Thus, is enables experimental research in the field of distributed production systems on a real system, transcending the limits of the virtual world.
