Štore Steel Ltd. is a small flexible steel plant that is one of the best-known producers of flat spring steel in Europe. Before two years the new continuous rolling mill, which has a technical capacity of 250.000 tons per year, was installed. The rolled material can be additionally treated on the machines in the rolling plant hall. The new continuous rolling mill, which entailed a corresponding reduction in space, required an urgent relocation of machinery. The genetic algorithm was used for the optimal rearranging of the machinery. The optimal layout of the machinery and shorter routes were obtained.

Machine vision is used on machine tools for non-contact determination of workpieces zero point with help of camera. Zero point is determined from the picture by edge detection algorithm. Another solution is on the field of chip shape and size determination.
