Magnetization of yeast cells in separation in production of sparkling wines

The method for magnetic separation of yeast biomass from sparkling wine mased on adsorption of magnetic nanoparticles on yeast cellls was developed in cooperation with Prof. Marin Berovič from Faculty of Chemistry and Chem. Tech. in Ljubljana. The innovation received second price at 4th International Conference on Technology Transfer.

Leading of international projects: FERFIT, FOMS

We were involved in the MNT-ERA.NET project "FERFIT" as coordinators. A Slovenian copmany Keko Equipment was also involved in the project. The aim was to develop technology for the preparation of magnetically oriented hexaferrite films for applications in self-biased nonreciprocal devices. As Slovenian leaders we also particpated in a Manunet project "FOMS", which finished in 2011. We were involved in the development of technolgies for magnetoptic fibres together with a Slovenian company Optacore and other partners.

3.
Patent for a photocatalytic material that is based on TiO2 coatings on agglomerates of superparamagnetic nanoparticles and the procedure of its preparation

The patent application legally protects the product – a photocatalyst for water purification in suspensions, which is magnetically separable, as well as the procedure for its preparation. The developed material differs from already known materials in the application of magnetic carriers in the form of agglomerates of superparamagnetic nanoparticles. The application of the agglomerates enables good efficiency in the magnetic separation. The patented procedure for the coating of TiO2 layers on solid substrates using the hydrolysis of TiOSO4 is appropriate for the preparation of different materials for various applications.
