We continued the study of synthesis of titania particles in anatase and rutile crystal form using sol-gel and hydrothermal methods. The influence of process parameters on the size, morphology and photocatalytic efficiency of particles was studied. The nucleation and growth of anatase particles to the specific bi-pyramid morphologies was explained. Due to the difference in the energies of certain crystal planes and non-equilibrium conditions the growth of starting block-like particles continue through asymmetric rod-like particles elongated in one of the (101) directions. The particles morphologies were reconstructed from HRTEM images.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23426087The decision of the International Advisory Committee that the 21. Workshop will be organized by Slovenia (other candidates were US, Russia and Singapore) is a very high recognition for Slovenian scientists who work in the field of permanent magnets based on RE-TM as well as for Slovenian industry from this field. The world's biggest and most respective Conference in the field had a huge positive response Worldwide. We attracted all the key people on this field and also a respective number of industrial participants (1/3). The Co-Chair of the Conference was Kolektor Group Idrija, Dr. B. Saje.

COBISS.SI-ID: 251581952In the frame of Meddelcoat project (FP7, IP-SME) and doctoral study of Nataša Drnovšek, we developed a new multilayer coating for bone implants and the process for production thereof. The tests confirmed that the bioactive glass-coating significantly enhance osseointegration, i.e. bone ingrowth into the porous surface layer on titanium implants. The coating and the process have been patented in Slovenija, and recently, European and USA patent applications have been filed.
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 25845031In the field of ZnO-based varistor ceramics we studied the influence of Bi4Ti3O12 addition on grain growth and microstructure development. The results are important for development of varistor ceramics with very low breakdown voltages below 50V/mm. The development of thick-film varistors was focused on studying the influence of organic vehicle and the amount of added varistor powder filler on the rheological characteristics of pastes and their screen printing performance.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26141223In 2012 we successfully won the EU FP7 project “Replacement and Original Magnet Engineering Options« (ROMEO) in which we are the coordinator (S. Kobe) and active research group in grain boundary engineering (GBE) and characterization of magnets by using magnetic properties measurements and high resolution electron microscopy on nano and atomic level. The final goals of the project are two: decreasing and/or completely avoiding the use of heavy rare-earth in Nd-Fe-B high energy magnets and secondly invent new magnets, which will have properties between ferrites and high energy magnets based on rare-earth and transition metals. The consortium involves all European main laboratories (Austria, France, Ireland, Germany, Slovenia) and industrial partners (Vacuumschmelze, Siemens, Daimler, Valeo and Kolektor Group. The value of the project is ~ 4 mio EUR.
