Application of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) as powerful tool for characterization of plasma treated surfaces and thin organic coatings

The application of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy – XPS was presented for characterization of plasma treated surfaces and thin organic films. The XPS method provides data on the elemental composition, chemical bonding and depth distribution of elements at surfaces, thin films and multilayered structures.

Golden prize in the tool fair

The 10th fair Forma Tool took place in Celje, Slovenia. Over 600 exhibitors from 30 countries participated in the fair. Our research group presented the blue nanolayer coatings as the key product. Our team was awarded the golden prize: our supernitride blue coatings were awarded as the best support activity in tool manufacturing in the previous two years. It has to be emphasized that tool manufacturing is a highly developed and competitive industry in Slovenia, distinguished by high added value per employee, predominantly export-driven and high R&D investment.

Plasma sterilization of microorganisms

The head of the research team was the supervisor of a PhD student who prepared an extensive thesis. Systematic work on plasma sterilization of delicate biomedical materials including vascular grafts is presented. The optimal plasma parameters for sterilization of materials contaminated with different bacteria are elaborated.

Customizing electron confinement in plasma-assembled Si/AlN nanodots for solar cell applications.

Systematic research on plasma treatment of the sistem aluminium nitride - silicon that has been performed in collaboration with foreign partners reveals possibilities for tailoring the electronic properties of such sistems. The invention represents a new approach to understanding of properties of such sistems and to synthesis of novel solar cells with improved characteristics.
