Environmental exposure to ionising radiation using the ERICA tool was calculated for several wetland plants within the contaminated area of the former uranium mine at Žirovski vrh. Exposure of soft rush (Juncus effuses L.), marsh marigold (Caltha palustris L.) and tall moor grass (Molinia arundinacea L.) to the experimentally measured activity concentrations of U-238, Ra-226 and Th-230 was considered in the model. No significant radiation risk was found in the studied plants.

The aforementioned activities are briefly discussed thus showing that even a small reactor is indispensable in nuclear science and technology.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23517479The special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research contains the Proceedings of the Fifth International k0 – Users Workshop, held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It was the first time that the workshop was held outside Europe. This was an excellent opportunity for boosting additional momentum to ever-growing interest in the current possibilities and actual potential of k0 – neutron activation analysis. Even 18 out of total 43 participants were from Brazil and altogether 24 papers are published in the special issue that previously passed usual peer-review process.

To calculate the energy savings, the top-down (TD) and the bottom-up (BU) concepts can be used. A set of required methods for both TD and BU concepts have been developed for calculation of energy savings. A set of necessary factors / parameters and type of data have been defined to calculate the savings for each method by each sector / technology.

In agriculture, there is unutilized potential of biomass for use in energy purposes. A set of technologies and technological solutions for the use of biomass for heat and electricity production is presented. Based on the analysis of technologies and processes in agriculture, a set of energy efficiency measures by type of energy consumption and activities for reduction of energy consumption in agriculture have been proposed.
