Macroporous monolithic poly(4-vinylbenzyl chloride) columns for org. synthesis facilitation by in situ polymerization of internal phase emulsions

Methods for the preparation of polymeric monolithic columns and their chemical modification, are described. Monolithic columns have been used for the removal of excess reagents from the solutions, while polymerisations have been carried out in situ.

Effects of surfactants and their mixtures on inhibition of the corrosion process of ferritic stainless steel

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of cationic/zwitterionic mixtures and non-ionic surfactant TRITON-X-405 mixed with 1mM of KBr, as corrosion inhibitors for stainless steel (X4Cr13) in aqueous solutions of 2M H2SO4 were investigated. Mixtures of the surfactants used in this study adsorbing on the stainless steel surface in agreement with the Flory-Huggins adsorption isotherm. The tensiometric results suggest the existence of a second state of aggregation for zwitterionic/cationic surfactant mixtures.

Classification of white varietal wines using chemical analysis and sensorial evaluations

The ways of application of multivariate data analysis and ANOVA to classification of white varietal wines are demonstrated. Wine classification was performed using the following classification criteria: winevariety, year of production, wine producer, and wine quality, as found by sensorial testing subjective wine evaluation, made by wine experts, is combined with commonly used chemical and physico-chemical properties, measured in analytical laboratory. Importance of the measured variables was determined by principal component analysis and confirmed by analysis of variance.

Cross-linked porous poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) from high internal phase emulsions: preparation and functionalisation

Crosslinked porous poly(acrylic acid) has been prepared and during the functionalisation to acid chloride site-site interactions occurred. The incorporation of acrylamide as a comonomer reduced this side effect and enabled easier functionalisation.

Inhibition properties of TRITON-X-100 on ferritic stainless steel in sulphuric acid at increasing temperature

The inhibiting action of a non-ionic surfactant of the TRITON-X series (TRITON-X-100) on stainless steel (X4Cr13) in 1M H2SO4 solution at five different temperatures was investigated. The experimental data suggest that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentration of the TRITON-X-100, and decreases with the increasing temperature. Adsorption of the non-ionic surfactant used here obeys the Flory-Huggins isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters, such as, the heat of adsorption, adsorption entropy, have been calculated by employing thermodynamic equations.
