Hybrid explicit model predictive control of a nonlinear process approximated with a piecewise affine model

The paper discusses the simplification of the explicit model predictive controller (e-MPC) for hybrid systems. The nonlinear process is approximated by a piecewise-affine hybrid model containing a set of local linear dynamics. Compared to linear-model-based MPC, a performance improvement is expected with the reduction of the plant-to-model mismatch; though at a cost of controller complexity. The presented computationally-efficient suboptimal solution allows the use of longer MPC horizons. The approach is compared to PID-controller scheme applied to pressure control in a wire-annealing machine.

An assessment of the energetic ?ows in a commercial PEM fuel-cell system

The article deals with an estimation of the real energetic ?ows and the corresponding electrical efficiency of a commercial proton-exchange-membrane fuel-cell hydrogen-fed generator set (PEMFCS). The FC power system considered here is planned to be the source of both electrical and thermal energy in a mobile dwelling container unit with in-built FC-based cogeneration system, and for the design of a cogeneration unit the actual amount of disposable energy from the PEMFC unit should be estimated. The assessment is carried out using commercial technical data for the PEMFCS.

Detection of improperly lubricated bearings by means of vibrations analysis

Proper lubrication is one of the most influential factors contributing to longer bearing life. The detection of improperly lubricated bearings is a difficult task especially in cases when records only from short operating periods are available. In the paper we propose one possible solution of this problem by applying both cyclostationary analysis and spectral kurtosis. The application of these methods one can select the frequency bands in which the lubrication influence is most expressed.

Domain specific model-based development of software for programmable logic controllers.

As the process control software is becoming ever more complex, a more systematic approach to its developmend is required. The article presents an approach based on domain-specific modelling languages and software tools for automatic code generation.

Improving disturbance rejection of PID controllers by means of the magnitude optimum method

The paper gives modification of standard magnitude optimum criterion for controller tuning in order to increase disturbance rejection performance. The method was applied to PID types of controllers. Calculating of controller parameters requires usage of optimisation methods. Results of experiments showed that disturbance rejection efficiency can be considerably increased, especially for lower-order processes.
