Proteases are involved in defence of plants against water stress as for example drought. Within the framework of the doctoral thesis, aminopeptidases and peptidases of Phaseolus vulgaris were characterized and a zymographic method developed.

Pure LexA protein was isolated and its binding to operator regions of genes recA, umuD, cka, cka L box and cka UP3 was investigated.Binding of LexA to the above mentioned operator regions exhibited variable stability and LexA dissociated from the individual operators with different rapidity. Results indicate that the activator RecA instigated autocatalytic cleavage only when LexA dissociates from DNA.
