Many heads are better than one - The Bust of a Knight by Robba: Analysis of Materials

Characteristic of the limestone from which the statue is made are high content of calcium (Ca) and low content of silicon (Si) and the absence of sulphur, lead, zinc and arsenic (S, Pb, Zn, As). The content of these latter elements within other analysed spots is quite high. Differences in the content of calcium (Ca) are typical. Therefore, our conclusion is that chemical compositions of surface coatings exclusively reflect the compositions of manufactured gypsum plaster, its colouring, gluing - restoration of the statue, and the method of making the mould for the copy (silicone paste, white plaster), as well as random spots of paint.

Heavy metal contamination of soils and crops in tertiary basins

Contamination of soils and crops with heavy metals is widespread and induces a long-term risk to ecosystem health. This research focuses on the heavy metal contamination of the paddy soils and crops from Kočani Field (Republic of Macedonia) originating from irrigation of the paddy fields by riverine water impacted by past and present base-metal mining activities and acid mine drainage.

Evaluation of limestones with respect to the influence of environmental factors on their deterioraton

This study deals with the characterization of two Slovenian limestones, which have been most frequently used in the construction of Slovenian historical monuments as well as modern buildings. The results indicated that the precipitation of soluble salts had significantly contributed to the severe observed deterioration of the selected limestones.

Deterioration phenomena on stone monuments: insights from some Slovenian monuments

A detailed investigation of stone monuments makes an important contribution to damage diagnosis on stone monuments. The talk included presentation of properties of a stones, which were used in the construction of some important monuments in Ljubljana. Furthermore, some weathering forms of the natural stones and their couses were presented.

Fractal analysis of flow in fractures and karstic aquifers

Applications of fractals in the study of groundwater flow and mass transport are very rare and presently popular research field in the world, and generally karstic and fractured aquifers are still inadequately analyzed. The lecture has been successful and has improved international relationships between faculties with researchers and teachers, and those students attending the exam have been given ETCS points
