The elemental composition of specific fractions of cereal and pseudocereal grains can be roughly estimated after milling. Alternatively, the elemental localization of cross-sectioned grains can be quantitatively analyzed by microproton induced X-ray emission (micro-PIXE), taking advantage of high elemental sensitivity and low lateral resolution. We present a micro-PIXE study on buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) grain, with a detailed description of the elemental distributions. Selected case illustates succesful application of lateral mapping of elemental concentrations on a number of real-life samples, especially of biological kind, a consequence of development of advanced ion beam analytical techniques with the proton microprobe. Under the leadership of dr. Primož Pelicon the JSI Microanalytical Center has entered the European network of ion acelerators under 7. FP EU SPIRIT. In 2011 we have hosted 7 projects with transnational access at MIC experimental stations with participating researchers from Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Hugary and Spain.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6591097We have measured vibrational population of H2 and D2 molecules produced by atom (H or D) recombination on tungsten and copper material. The vibrational spectroscopy, based on the properties of dissociative electron attachment to hydrogen molecule, was used. The vibrationally excited molecules were produced by atom recombination in a cell where the studied sample is exposed to hydrogen atoms, from hot tungsten filament. The above publication summarizes results obtained in course of development of an experimental approach called ''vibrational spectroscopy''. It was set-up during doctoral studies of Sabina Markelj that has sucessfully defended her PhD in physics in 2011. During all that time she was under efficient and inspirative supervision of dr. Iztok Čadez whose enthusiastic attitude toward research as well as his high level of scientific knowledge provided the best example to follow.

COBISS.SI-ID: 24607271In collaboration with dr. Lorenzo Avaldi and group of researchers at the Gasphase photoemission beamline we have prepared a meeting at synchrotron Elettra to discuss the posibilities for an efficient collaboration in frame of the approved Italy-Slovenia bilateral project. The kick-off meeting ''Dynamics at nanoscale'' took place on 5th July 2011 and followed a thread of following presentations: 9:30 Welcome and Introduction.
