The syntheses of W5O14 nanofibers from vapor phase in the presence of nickel iodide is described in detail. W5O14 is relatively rare but very important tungsten oxide phase, the syntheses of which is very demanding. The applicability of W5O14 is in the field of optical devices like light-emitting diodes, laser diodes and display devices.
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 20624167In the patent the process is disclosed for the synthesis of bulk quantities of transition metal dichalcogenides in the form of nanotubes, fullerene-like nanostructures and nanotubes filled with fullerene-like nanostructures as well as bulk quantities of quasi one-dimensional structures of transition metals and transition metal oxides. Potential applications of nanomaterials prepared by the described process are due to the morphology nad physical properties in the field of special solid lubricants in space techniques (dichalcogenides), catalysts (dichalcogenides and oxides) and in electronics (metals).

COBISS.SI-ID: 16432935Zois Award is the highest scientific award in Slovenia. A short version of the official written statement of the award is given below. Prof. Dr. Boris Žemva belongs, with his research achievements in the field of inorganic fluorine chemistry, especially chemistry of noble gases, high energy oxidizers and coordination compounds with unusual ligands, among a few researchers worldwide, who moved knowledge in these areas on, before forty years, an unimaginable high level. Žemva showed that some elements can be prepared in the highest oxidation states, for example Ag3 +, Ni4 + and Cu3 +, what was until then unimaginable. Their cationic species are the strongest oxidizers known to date. In these systems, elemental oxygen is a reducing agent. His achievements are an integral part of modern inorganic chemistry textbooks, he wrote a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry, received the prestigious Humboldt Research Award, he is one of the four Europeans who received the American Chemical Society Award. Žemva obtained more awards for his research as any other Slovenian chemist or non chemist. Reference: Interview; Delo, (Ljubl.), 26. nov. 2011, letn. 53, št. 274, str. 26. [COBISS.SI-ID 25336359]
