Coloured multilayer coatings exhibiting low solar absorptivity and high thermal emittance

This invention relates to: i) a coloured multilayer coatings that exhibit low solar absorptance and high thermal emittance, which could be used for controlling the highest temperature of coated surfaces exposed to direct sunlight; ii) the process for coating application; and iii) cool surfaces prepared by application of these coatings. The coloured coating compositions are made by mixing highly reflective metallic or metallised flakes, IR transparent or IR reflecting colorants and various binders, their high thermal emittance is assured by application of a transparent top coating possessing high thermal emittance. Coatings can be applied by spray-coating applications or by coil-coating applications.

Technology for preparation of »electrochromic paints« for flexible substrates

At 7th Slovenian inovation forum, organised by Public Agency for Marketing and Foreigh Investitions of Republic Slovenia, the inovation Technology for preparation of »electrochromic paints« for flexible substrates obtained title of 2nd best inovation among 136 submitted inovations (48 accepted for presentation). This inovation NIC prepared in collaboration with firm Amanova, d.o.o. The innovation enabled the preparation of low-temperature (up to 150 °C) electrochromic thin films for electrochromic devices of battery type. Using this approach we already prepared thin films of Ni1-xO, TiO2 and WO3.

Thematic workshop Instrumental analytical methods for environmental monitoring

UNG is in the frame of EU project Sungreen organised international workshop Instrumental Analytical Methods for Environmental Monitoring. Researchers from UNG were involved in the organisation of the workshop. Polonca Trebše and Olga Malev have also taken the opportunity to edit the book of abstract of the conference.

Third project periodic report INNOSHADE (Final report)

In the frame of this project we collborated in development of counter electrodes and electrolytes for electrochromic devices of battery type. The most important aspect of investigations of counter electrodes is the preparation of optically quallitative thin layers at low temperatures ((200 °C) with low haze that enable deposition of these films on flexible polymeric substrates and in this way significantly decrease the price of final commercial electrochromic devices. Electrolytes were prepared on the basis of mesylate alkoxysilyl functionalised imidazolium ionic liquids and were also applied in electrochromic devices with an optical modulation of about 40%.

Preparation and characterization of nano-to-submicrometer-sized ZnO particles

The work in the field of synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles resulted in invited lecture to ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia. The influence of various precursors on the final ZnO structures was depicted, as well the importance of nanostructured ZnO for various applications (photoanode in Graetzel photoelectrochemical cells, absorbers in polymeric matrixes, absorbers for UV light).
