Synthesis of polyhedral silsesquioxanes

The Synthesis of polyhedral silsesquioxanes is a very interesting issue for the polymer industry, especially for paint industry; the addition of certain amount of properly substituted polyhedral silsesquioxanes (PSS or POSS) to coating formulation could enhance some properties, like hardness and high contact angles for water. The leader of this project developed a novel process, which incorporates the use of inorganic acidic hydrogen difluorides. The activity of KHF2 was checked in preparation of Ph–T8, Ph–T12, iBu–T8, octa (isooctylsilsesquioxane) (iOc–T8), octa(propylsilses¬quioxane) (Pr–T8) and a few others. This patent will be used as foundation for industrial synthesis in Slovenian companies.

Innovative switchable shading appliances based on nanomaterials and hybrid electrochromic device configurations

We collaborated in the development of components for electrochromic devices that can be assembled on electronically conductive polymeric substrates. The thin films of NiOx we prepared as »electrochromic paints«, i.e., the films were deposited from dispersions of nanoparticles that were made according to procedures usually used in paint industry. Thermal treatment of films was made at 150 °C. Using the same way, also WO3 in TiO2 films were prepared. In addition, electrolytes on the basis of sol-gel functionalised mesylate ionic liquids were developed.
