P1-0011 — Final report
1.
Geotechnical, geological and seismological (GG&S) evaluations for the new nuclear power plant at the Krško site (NPP Krško II)

Coordination and P.I. of geological part of site-suitability study for the potential second block of the Krško nuclear power plant. Extensive interdisciplinary study consisted of geological, geodetic, morphometric and paleoseismologic studies, including definition of seismic source model.

Explanatory book to the Geological map of the northern part of the Trieste-Komen plateau 1: 25 000

Explanatory booklet is presented here only as an example of an accompanying product the PG is producing in the field of geomaps. The PG members were either authors or editors of the following maps that have been published in 2009 – 2013 or are due to be published before the end of the pending program period: The debris-flow susceptibility map of Slovenia (1:250.000). Geological map of Slovenia 1:250.000, overview geological map of Slovenia 1:1M, Geological map of Kras (1:50.000 and 1:100.000), Geological map of the Žiri area and Krško basin (both 1:25.000), lithological map of Slovenia (1 : 100.000) and overview lithological map of Slovenia (1:1,2 M).

Global Geophysics

PG members are regularly involved in the educational process at two Universities. Tea Kolar Jurkovšek and Marko Komac were credited assistant professor title and Andrej Gosar was elected full professor during the pending program period. Global geophysics is the first university textbook in Slovene language which covers this field. It comprises the following chapters: internal structure of Earth, gravity and isostasy, geomagnetism, Earth's heat, geoelectricity and plate tectonics. The textbook is used in interfaculty M.Sc. study of geophysics and in M.Sc. study of Minning and geotechnology at the University of Ljubljana.

Elaboration of spatial database and web-based information system of geological hazards due to slope movement processes, erosion maps and avalanches maps - a pilot project

An innovative concept for evaluation of geohazard phenomena was developed for application at a municipaliuty scale (detailed scale). The apporach was applied to 14 municiapities in Slovenia. The method is documented in a series of scientific publications while the results of the 2012 case-study is documented in an operational web-application.

5.
Vice president of the International Union of Geological Sciences - IUGS (2012-2016)

With 121 national members, the Union aims to promote development of the Earth sciences through the support of broad-based scientific studies relevant to the entire Earth system; to apply the results of these and other studies to preserving Earth's natural environment, using all natural resources wisely and improving the prosperity of nations and the quality of human life; and to strengthen public awareness of geology and advance geological education in the widest sense.
