L2-1156 — Annual report 2008
1.
Hydrothermal synthesis of photocatalytic nanoparticles

The methods used for synthesis of the anatase TiO2 nanoparticles with the hydrolysis of TiOSO4 and for their further coarsening with a hydrothermal treatment are described. The nanoparticles were characterized using the methods of x-ray diffractometry and electron microscopy. The report focuses on the influences of different parameters applied during the synthesis on the morphology and properties of the product nanoparticles. The results of the nanoparticles’ testing in the photocatalytic decomposition of organic pollutants in water are also presented.

Analysis of commercial TiO2 nanoparticles

The report describes the analyses of different commercial TiO2 nanoparticles currently available on the world market. The main focus was on the analyses of the morphology and structural properties of the nanoparticles using the methods of x-ray diffractometry and electron microscopy. The surface properties (zeta-potential) of the nanoparticles in their aqueous suspensions were also evaluated.
