The first successful three-dimensional tomography of the confocal PIXE method. Intersection of the proton microbeam and the acceptance direction of an X-ray polycapillary lens forms a detection vortex in the elemental tomography with Proton Induced X-ray Emission. Computational reconstruction of a measured distribution of aerosol microparticles in a quartz filter. Eksperiment done at the high-energy focused ion beam at JSI.

We determined the allocation of the nutritious elements in the buckwheat grain. It was shown, that the cotyledon is the most important reservoir of the nutrition-relevant elements Zn, Mg, Fe. Quantitative elemental micro-PIXE mapping was applied in the form developed in the frame of the Project.

A large area charge particle detector was mounted at the high-energy focused beam at JSI for separation of the high-energy protons released from the reaction D(3He,p)4He. 3He ion beam was focused to the dimension of 5 x 5 µm2. We applied the method in the international project DITS (Deuterium Inventory in Tore Supra), coordinated by CEA, Cadarache. At the erosion-dominant regions, we observed strong fluctuations in area deuterium concentrations, assotiated by the topograpy irregularities in the surface of Carbon Fibre Composites. The fuel is retained in the deep regions of the surface voids.

Three-dimensional shape and elemental concentration composition of individual hematite microparticle was reconstructed with confocal PIXE method. Series of two-dimensional spectral maps of a hematite particle were measured by combining a scanning proton microbeam excitation with detection of X-rays by a Si(Li) spectrometer equipped with polycapillary lens. The microparticle was driven in equidistant steps through the sensitive microvolume, enabling for a reconstruction of concentration in three dimensions.

We applied the micro-NRA method in the international project DITS (Deuterium Inventory in Tore Supra), coordinated by CEA, Cadarache. With the micro-NRA, we demonstrated, that the far depth of the castellation gaps are not a subject of important fuel retention, as anticipated. The concentrations measured deep in the castellations were two orders of magnitude lower than close to the exposed front surface.
