Identification of terms for the Dictionary of Tourism Terminology

The paper presents the procedure for the compilation of the Dictionary of Tourism Terminology, with emphasis on the identification of terms using the corpus approach. Firstly, attention is paid to the selection and classification of texts for the Corpus of Tourist Texts. The procedure for the identification of tourist terminology was made on the basis of a classification of tourist texts in the corpus according to the type of tourism and the field of activity related to tourism results to be the most relevant in determining the range of selected tourist terms to be included in the Dictionary.

Culture and Language Awareness in the Multicultural Environment of Slovene Istria

This paper concentrates on the interethnic/intercultural attitudes of the Slovene majority toward the autochthonous Italian minority population in the Slovene part of the Istrian peninsula. Research results confirm the hypothesis that a positive attitude toward the second language and culture, and bilingualism or bi/interculturalism in general, do not compete with positive attitudes toward the mother tongue and culture.

Specialised language corpora and genre variation

The building of specialised corpora represents an opportunity to verify, on the basis of a wide range of authentic texts in various fields of activity, the key elements of language function and variation. The article uses the example of building a specialised corpus in the field of tourism to address the problem of the definition of register variation, and languages for specific purposes within this frame, and offers arguments for the terms register and genre variation and, consequently, the terms discourse, discourse-specific texts and discourse-specific languages.
