International Scientific Conference Modern Language Technologies in Intercultural Communication

Members of the project group under the leadership of dr. Vesna Mikolič have organized scientific conference Modern Language Technologies in Intercultural Communication, which took place during the 22nd and 24th of May 2008 at the Faculty of Humanities Koper. The discussion, in which participated linguists, translators and information scientists with their contributions, emphasized the imporatance of such tools for intercultural researches, linguistic analyses, translation, the building of new corpuses and improvement of already existing ones.

Content diversity of contributions in the monograph coincides with diversity of language corpora use and as such represents a section of current status in Slovene corpus linguistics, points to numerous current issues and suggests possible directions of future development of this prolific and interdisciplinary field.

Co-editorship of the collection Intercultural Dialogue as the Fundamental Value of the EU

The collection brings contributions of numerous European intelectuals and economists, which attended the inauguration conference, which marked the beginning of the Slovenian presidency of the European Union. The conference was organised by Faculty of Humanities Koper of University of Primorska. The contriburions are reasonably arranged in four thematic assemblies: Culture and Art, Education and Science, Media and Sustainable Economic Development.

International Scientific Meeting Slovene Dialects in Contact IV – From Trubar to the Present

The international scientific meeting Slovene Dialects in Contact IV convened the most notable experts of dialectology, of the following universities and institutions: University of Trieste,University of Pula,University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor, University of Graz, University of Klagenfurt, University of Primorska, SRC SASA, University of Zagreb and University of Udine. The main theme of the meeting was linguistic intertwining in border areas in the light of Romanic-Germanic-Slavic linguistic interference.

Multilingual corpus of Tourist Texts (TURK)

The Multilingual Corpus of Tourist Texts comprises 27 million words in Slovene, English and Italian and thus represents the largest LSP corpus for Slovene at the national as well as international level.
