We assessed whether gene polymorphisms in ESR1, CYP17A1, IL23R and PTPN22 are associated with uterine leiomyomas (ULM) and evaluated differences in epidemiological and genetic factors among women with solitary and multiple ULM. According to our results solitary ULM may be a consequence of a random spontaneous mutation associated to hormonal environment, in contrast to multiple ULM, where familiar predisposition and exposures predominant. Genetic predisposition may partly be associated to CYP17A1 gene polymorphism.

The influence of peroxide bleaching and slack-mercerization on the amount of acidic groups in regenerated fibres (viscose, modal and lyocell) were studied. Conductometric titration was used to determine the total content of acidic carboxylic groups. Polyelectrolyte titration was used for surface and total charge determination, and to obtain information about the charge distribution and accessibilities of charged groups. Changes in fibre crystallinity to pre-treatment processes were characterized using iodine sorption.

Modification of the surface and adsorption of chitosan was monitored by determination of XPS spectra, determination of contact angles from rates of water imbibition, and conductometric titration. The plasma treatment resulted in hydrophilization of the surfaces through oxidation. The treatment also yielded binding sites that resulted in over 20% increase of the amount of chitosan adsorbed over that adsorbed on nontreated fabric. Layers of chitosan adsorbed after plasma treatment were substantially more active as antimicrobial agents.

The aim of the study was the analysis of peri-operative complications in women who were randomly assigned to receive two different techniques for the treatment of stress and mixed urinary incontinence. Our study included 120 women in whom we performed either TVT-O or Monarc procedure in local anesthesia. In conclusion, inside-out and outside-in procedures are equally successful methods for the treatment of urinary incontinence at 4 months, however, inside-out procedure appears to be more painful.

Introduction and hypothesis. A study was performed to assess the satisfaction rate (SR) after transobturator procedures in pad negative women. Conclusions. Irritative symptoms are the main reason for dissatisfaction of patients with surgical outcome
