Simple cystatin C formula compared to serum creatinine-based equations for estimation of glomerular filtration rate in elderly patients with CKD

In this study, 265 adult patients aged over 65 years with established chronic kidney disease were enrolled. Simple cystatin formula (100/cystatin C) and creatinine formulas were compared. Results indicate that simple cystatin formula is reliable marker of GFR with high diagnostic accuracy and ability to predict GFR below and above 45/ml/min/1.73m2 in elderly patients with CKD.

Cystatin C formula compared to creatinine formulas for estimation of GFR in overweight patients with diabetes mellitus type and CKD

In our study, 103 overweight adult (BMI>25 kg/m2) patients were enrolled. In each patient 51CrEDTA clearance, serum creatinine and serum cystatin C were determined. Glomerular filtrati rate (GFR) was calculated using C&G, MDRD and our own cystatin C formula (GFR=90.63 x cystatin C-1.192). Our results indicate that our cystatin C formula which requires just one variable is reliable markers of GFR with high diagnostic accuracy and ability to predict GFR below and above 60/ml/min/1.73m2 in overweight patients with DM2 and CKD.
