Simple cystatin formula compared to sophisticated creatinine and cystatin C-based formulas (CKD-EPI) for estimation of GFR in patients with CKD

In this study 800 adult Caucasians patients with established or suspected CKD were enrolled. The aim of our study was to compare MDRD formula, CKD-EPI creatinine formula, CKD-EPI creatinine & cystatin formula and simple cystatin C formula (100/serum cystatin C) against 51CrEDTA clearance in patients with CKD. Our results indicate that simple cystatin C formula which requires just one variable (serum cystatin C concentration) is reliable marker of GFR in patients with CKD and comparable to sophisticated creatinine formulas including CKD-EPI creatinine & cystatin formula.

Simple cystatin C formula compared to serum creatinine-based equations for estimation of glomerular filtration rate in elderly patients with CKD

Present study compares simple cystatin formula (100/cystatin C) and creatinine formulas in elderly patients with CKD. 265 adult patients aged over 65 years with established were enrolled. Serum creatinine was determined and GFR was calculated using the C&G and MDRD. Cystatin C was determined and GFR was estimated with simple cystatin formula. GFR was measured using 51CrEDTA clearance. Results indicate that simple cystatin formula is reliable marker of GFR with high diagnostic accuracy and ability to predict GFR below and above 45/ml/min/1.73m2 in elderly patients with CKD.

Cystatin C formula compared to creatinine formulas for estimation of GFR in overweight patients with diabetes mellitus type and CKD

103 overweight adult (BMI>25 kg/m2) patients were enrolled. 51CrEDTA clearance, serum creatinine and serum cystatin C were determined. GFR was calculated using C&G, MDRD and our own cystatin C formula (GFR=90.63 x cystatin C-1.192). Results indicate that our cystatin C formula which requires just one variable is reliable markers of GFR with high diagnostic accuracy and ability to predict GFR below and above 60/ml/min/1.73m2 in overweight patients with DM2 and CKD.

The meaning and the role of serum cystatin C and cystatin C formulas for estimation of GFR in patients with CKD

725 adult Caucasians patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) were included. In each patient glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was measured using 51CrEDTA clearance and calculated using creatinine and cystatine C formulas. In this study, we confirmed superiority of serum cystatin C-based formulas to Cockcroft-Gault formula, but not to MDRD formula for estimation of GFR in patients with CKD.
