Prevalence of common mental disorders in general practice attendees across Europe

Aim was to compare prevalence of major depression, panic syndrome and other anxiety syndrome in general practice attendees in six European countries. The highest prevalence for all disorders occurred in the UK and Spain, and lowest in Slovenia and The Netherlands.

Development and validation of an international risk prediction algorithm for episodes of major depression in general practice attendees.

Nine of the 10 factors in the risk algorithm were age, sex, educational level achieved, results of lifetime screen for depression, family history of psychological difficulties, physical and mental health subscale scores on the SF 12, unsupported difficulties in paid or unpaid work, and experiences of discrimination.

Prevalence of abdominal obesity in Slovene primary health care attendees

The prevalence of abdominal obesity is increasing with age and declining with higher level of education. Abdominal obesity is highly prevalent among unemployed women and former smokers.

Impact of demographic factors on recognition of persons with depression and anxiety in primary care in Slovenia.

The paper compared two cross-sectional studies that were performed at the same time in Slovenia. It was more likely for people with higher education to be diagnosed with depression in the second study than in the first one.
