Mechanical properties of porous Y-TZP ceramics for dental applications.

By systematic control of the processing parameters partially porous, biscuit-sintered Y-TZP ceramics were fabricated. The resultant Young's modulus was closer to that of natural dentine, whereas the mechanical properties and the hydrothermal stability were acceptable for dental applications.

Criteria for the materils' selection were presented and the processing variables were were dtermined that allow for manufacturing of biscuit-sintered Y-TZP blanks for the production of fixed partial dentures using soft milling.
