Planning cellular radio telecommunication systems is a complex problem, solved by numerous mathematical models, using various program tools. An open-source system, such as GRASS, enables free development and improvement of existing mathematical models as well as usage of other modules for data processing. We developed new modules for coverage calculation, based on mathematical models such as Okumura-Hata, 9999 model etc. The achievements are useful above all for improved planning of GSM/UMTS networks.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22934567Using OPNET Modeler Wireless Suite we have developed a simulation model for performance analysis and wireless protocol optimisation in cellular networks. The, which we used, provides high fidelity modeling, simulation, and analysis of a broad range of wireless networks. We used OPNET tool to test the throughput of Telekom access network in the part of Ljubljana region, generating the traffic caused by http, P2P, IPTV and VoD services. We tested also the througput in simplified WiMAX system, consisting only of one base station and two mobile stations, by varying different system parameters.
