Polyester biomaterial with the antithrombogen properties surface and it’ s working out procedure

The patents' objective is a polyester, preferentially poliethylene(terephtalate) biomaterial, treated in the way, which enables coating with two layers. The first layer consists from chitosan and serves as a basic layer for the second layer. Second layer is made from sulphonated polysaccharide, which has anticoagulative properties, preferentially fucoidan.

Antithrombotic coating of synthetic polymers

The adsorption of biopolymers (onto the activated PET surface under different conditions was monitored using QCM; the properties gained by biopolymer adsorption were investigated using XPS, electrokinetic measurements and AFM. The results of in-vitro measurements: thromboplastine time (APTT), clotting time, RBC clothing, protein adsorption, endothelial cell seeding showed that PET surface modification using sulphated polysaccharides significantly improve their biocompatibility.

EPNOE Scientific Meeting & 2nd Business and Industry Club Meeting, May 2009, Utrecht, Netherlands

Karin Stana-Kleinschek was the president of the organisation and scientific board of the: EPNOE Scientific Meeting & 2nd Business and Industry Club Meeting, May, 2009, Utrecht, Netherlands. On the meeting the newest research activities on the field of polysaccharides were presented. The meeting was dedicated to presentation of the newest research trends to the European industry. The young researcher presented their PhD thesis, what was interesting for the transformation of the knowledge from the scientific sphere to the industrial one.

EPNOE Road map 2010-2020.

The European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence (EPNOE) has two main missions in the field of polysaccharide applications in materials, food, and pharmacy/medicine, which are to organise education in polysaccharide science and to perform basic and applied research for the development of new products derived from polysaccharides. The research road map was prepared from various social, political, industrial and scientific inputs. EPNOE. New insights in the structure and functions of polysaccharides in Nature open new ways for application developments though polysaccharide engineering.

In vitro hemocompatibility assessment using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D).

The Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) model surface was prepared by spin coating technique. The qurtz crystal microbalance with dissipation unit (QCM-D) were used for fibrin adsorption studies and for the online measurements of blood coagulation on the model PET surfaces treated with a conventional anticoagulant heparin and non-treated PET surfaces. From the QCM-D experimental data valuable information about clotting kinetics, fibrin deposition rate and viscoelastic properties of the clot were derived, which make the QCM-D very useful and helpful technique.
