In Slovene folklore a tenth child is ascribed with numerous supernatural powers, but their most typical characteristic is their inevitable fate to go on a voyage. This tradition cannot be analyzed separately from the common European tradition of children, who were, due to their position of being born as a specific number in a line of siblings or with a certain »extra« body part at their birth predestined for communicating between the worlds, and the way of their embracing the inevitable fate was exactly through their constant circular movement around the world.

The conceptualisation of the space is reflected in the concept of ‘the step of mrak’, where a three-dimensional Western model is supplemeted by the indefinable fourth dimension, representing the world beyond. The folklore aspect of cadastral boundaries, in which they function as the places of contact with the otherworld, is supplemented by its ritual aspect, which is shown by the phenomenon of the “dead resting sites”. The article researches these kind of ritual places on the funeral paths, which are situated near the cadastral boundaries or near the water.
